Summer FUN at EARC Pool!

East Asheville Recreation Club has been making wonderful summer memories for families since 1968. The pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Memberships are limited and the 2022 season is full.

Letter From the Board re: Early Ending to the 2022 Season

Greetings Members,
We wanted to touch base with a pool update. The City of Asheville inspected the pool today and found one of the pump breakers not to be up to code. Due to ongoing supply chain issues, we cannot source the needed part in a timely manner to reopen this weekend.
The pool will remain closed for the remainder of the season. We know this is a disappointment to you and your families, just as it is for us.
The pool’s pump is 20 years old and we are grateful that it lasted us through most of the season.
The electrical components now have to meet building code requirements for a “new” build. The pump had previously been grandfathered in with past guidelines. The pump room will require significant improvement/upgrades to meet current requirements.
In the off season, we will be upgrading and automating the pump room and its components. This should prevent future issues and build sustainability for this pool.
Our hope is to open the pool for the 2023 season one weekend earlier next year. The Erwin pool is open this weekend if you are looking for a place to take a dip.
We are available to answer any questions you may have and will provide additional communication in the coming weeks.
Thanks for a great season! We appreciate you being a part of this community.
Your EARC Board of Directors

Board Meeting July 11th

Board Meetings during the summer are held monthly on the following dates at 7:00pm:

Monday, June 13th

Monday, July 11th

Monday August 8th

Meetings will follow the agenda below:
45-60 minutes:   Board Business (EARC Elected Board Members)

After all Board business is completed, members will have an opportunity to comment and address the board.

Members wishing to address the board are asked to keep comments and questions to 3 minutes so that everyone wishing to address the board has time to do so.  We also ask that you address the entire board, and not just one board member.  Please keep in mind that we are all volunteers and we are all acting in what we feel is the very best interest of the pool and members.
The Annual Members meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 7th @ 4pm.  There will be open seats on the board, so please consider if this is an opportunity that you’d like to consider taking on and running for!

We are gearing up for our big Fourth of July celebration. We hope you can join us Monday from 10:30-5:30 for games, pie eating and a cookout!!

Let us know if you are available to help man the grill for a hour or want to participate in the pie competition.

***Please note that the weekend guest rate is currently $10 PER GUEST. Members are NOT allowed to bring guests on Monday, July 4th.

Water Temps

The board has received feedback about the pool temperature, and WE HEAR YOU! We really do, and we agree. Our GOAL TEMPERATURE IS 84 degrees. This is what we are shooting for each and every day. We all want the water to feel warmer so that our littles can enjoy it longer without turning blue. Please know that we are working on it! It is going to be a process for the board to learn the ins and outs of how rain, sun, chilly nights, and sweltering hot days all impact the water temperature and at what pace they impact the water temperature. Please bear with us while we work hard to keep the pool temps at a comfortable level.

Opening Day 2022

It was a successful day with PERFECT weather! 336 members (and a number of guests) checked in, and everyone enjoyed the 84 degree water.

2022 Season COVID-19 Reminder

We are so excited to see all of our old friends at the pool this weekend!  The EARC Board would like to take a moment to address the current COVID situation.  We understand that many members have been impacted by the pandemic over the last couple of years, and and wish to remain sensitive to varying comfort levels.

We ask that if you are experiencing respiratory or gastrointestinal issues that you please refrain from coming to the pool.

Below is a screen shot of COVID-19 cases in Buncombe county over the last year.  There’s no denying that we have spikes after holidays.  Please be safe, and keep other members safe as well.
